Team India succumbed to a crushing 7 wicket defeat at the hands of England in the first T20I at Kanpur. The story of the match could have been slightly different had Jasprit Bumrah not overstepped on a delivery which saw the stumps of Joe Root rattled. Well, it might sound a little harsh to put the blame on Bumrah for overstepping, but is the Twitterati is to be believed, he surely did not impress on the day.

During the England run chase, the visitors looked well on course for a cruising win. It was in the 17th over, when Jasprit Bumrah clean bowled Joe Root. Much to the disappointment of Bumrah and the Indian cricket fans, he had overstepped. The umpire signaled a free hit.

What perspired next only added up to the amusement of the fans at the venue and the ones watching at home. Bumrah managed to clean bowl Joe Root on the free hit as well. How often do we get to see that? A bowler dismisses the same batsman on two consecutive deliveries and the batsman still manages to take strike in the very next over.

To add salt to the wounds, the batsman goes on to win the match for his team. Joe Root ensured that England were over the line with 7 wickets in hand. Root scored an unbeaten run-a-ball 46 to see England home.

Meanwhile, Jasprit Bumrah had a forgettable day at the office with no wickets to show in the match. Earlier in the game, India had managed to put on 147/7 in their 20 overs riding on cameos from Virat Kohli, Suresh Raina, and MS Dhoni. England, in their run chase, were given a flying start by openers Jason Roy and Sam Billings. Skipper Eoin Morgan then guided the run chase with a gritty half century and Joe Root finished things off in style.

The Twitter world were left unimpressed at India’s defeat and perhaps Bumrah was the scape goat of the day. Bumrah’s unimpressive no ball bowling spree left the fans in anger. As Sunil Gavaskar rightly mentioned, he needs to fix the issue as soon as possible. Here are the fans showing their wrath on the social media:
