Bowling legend Wasim Akram has lavished praise on Indian spearhead Jasprit Bumrah. The right-arm pacer is growing from strength to strength in his international career and craft with each passing day. Considered as a limited-overs format specialist when he made his debut in 2016, Bumrah has grown leaps and bounds in the last two years and is now one of the best bowlers in the world across formats.
He recently starred for India in the historic Test series win in Australia. Bumrah finished the series as the joint highest wicket-taker, picking up 21 wickets including a career-best 6 for 33 in the third Test as India won the series 2-1 to register their first Test-series win on Australian soil. The six-wicket haul in Melbourne also made him the first bowler from the subcontinent to take a five-for or more in South Africa, England and Australia in the same year.
Bumrah went on to finish 2018 as the highest wicket-taker across all formats in the calendar year. The fast bowler took 78 wickets in this year. Bumrah took 48 wickets in 9 Tests, 22 wickets in 13 ODIs and 8 wickets in 8 T20I matches. He has received rave reviews from all around for his constant show with the ball and the latest to heap praise on him is Akram.
The former Pakistan skipper, who definitely knows a thing or two about nailing yorkers, said that Bumrah has the ‘best and most effective yorker’ in the game right now.
“Jasprit Bumrah has the best and the most effective yorker among fast bowlers playing international cricket now,” Akram was quoted as saying on Indian Express. “Bumrah has an exceptional action, very different from other fast bowlers and yet he gets the ball to swing and also move off the deck at good pace,” he added.
Akram also said that Bumrah’s ability to bowl yorker on a regular basis makes him special.
“But what makes Bumrah special is his ability to bowl yorkers on a regular basis. Also yorker is not just used for ODIs but for Test matches too as me and Waqar did in our times,” said the bowler who retired with a staggering 502-ODI wickets.
Akram hails India‘s Test series win in Australia:
Akram also praised India’s historic triumph in the Test series in Australia. The 2-1 win over the hosts ended India’s 71-year long wait to win a series Down Under. In doing so, India became the first-ever country from Asia to win a Test series in Australia.
“It’s a huge achievement to win a Test series in Australia. I don’t subscribe to the view that this is a weakened Australian side. Let’s not take away any credit from Virat and his boys. The kind of consistency they have shown is indeed a big deal,” said Akram.
