Jasprit Bumrah to travel to the UK for treatment on his stress fracture

Many were looking forward to seeing Jasprit Bumrah play his first home Test series against South Africa. But team India was dealt with a massive blow when he was ruled out of the contest due to the lower back injury. He has sustained a minor stress fracture in the lower back and will now travel to the United Kingdom to seek an opinion on the same.

Bumrah was exceptional in the recent Test series for India in the West Indies. He was highest wicket-taker of the series with 13 scalps to his name which also included a stunning hat-trick and a couple of five-wicket hauls. It would’ve been great to watch him bowl in India as well but the fans will have to wait for a bit more now as he has been ruled out of the series.

Bumrah to visit multiple specialists

According to Cricbuzz, Jasprit Bumrah is set to visit multiple specialists during his visit to the UK in October after which the further course of action will be decided. Also, the extent of injury is, at the moment, unknown and after seeking the opinion of the specialists, the tentative comeback date of the speedster would be known. Bumrah will be accompanied by Ashish Kaushik, the head physiotherapist at the National Cricket Academy, in the UK.

The selectors are already managing his workload and had rested the 25-year-old from the limited-overs leg of West Indies tour and then the T20I series against South Africa. But the injury was detected during the routine radiological screening ahead of the Test series. Since then, Jasprit Bumrah has been rehabilitating at the NCA.

Umesh Yadav has been named his replacement in the Test squad but it remains to be seen if he gets the game. With the pitches most likely to be conducive to spin, the hosts might go in with only two pacers in Ishant Sharma and Mohammed Shami. Having said that, Umesh has a brilliant record at home and can reverse swing the ball effectively, the quality which can also work in his favour.
