With a couple of Australian wickets to pick, India are currently on the brink of their second victory in their four-match Test series at the iconic MCG. After Pat Cummins turned up with a six-wicket haul, India declared their second innings on 106 and set a colossal target of 399 for Tim Paine and Co to track. 25-year-old speedster Jasprit Bumrah has arguably been their standout bowler thus far.

He is presently the leading wicket of the series with 19 scalps and would have the chance of adding more tomorrow morning on Day 5. In the first innings, Virat Kohli and Co shot the Aussies out for a paltry 151 and Bumrah turned out to be the wrecker-in-chief with a six-wicket haul, his first in Test cricket, conceding 33 runs. Even in the second innings, he has picked up a couple of crucial wickets.

We were extremely confident of Bumrah

The hosts’ batsmen have found it tough to counter his lethal bouncers and they also have strained to decipher his deceptive slower deliveries. In the meantime, Bharat Arun, India’s bowling coach, heaped praises on Bumrah and said that his unique action has been hard to pick. Moreover, Arun also said that the Indian team management was confident of Bumrah doing well even before his Test debut.

“What makes him (Bumrah) so special is because he is so unique (in his bowling action). Maybe the batsmen pick up his balls a little later than which they normally do from a clean action and that makes him so much more potent,” Arun was quoted as saying in The Times of India (TOI).

“Of course, for any fast bowler to be bowling 145 clicks and above consistently over a period of time, you need to generate a lot of speed from your arms, We were extremely confident of Bumrah doing well even before he started playing Tests because he was unique and most batsmen who played against him said it was difficult to pick him,” he added.
