Shahid Afridi and co landed in India with the security issues well and truly out of the way. The Pakistan team that landed at Kolkata was received well by the Bengali fans native to Kolkata. An emotional Afridi later stated in a press conference that it was the best welcome he had ever faced to a touring team.

The additional comments made by Afridi included that the Pakistan side hasn’t even received such a warm welcome in many years. In a rather bold statement, Afridi also went on to state that the Pakistan players haven’t received such a welcome from even their own supporters.

However, these comments haven’t gone down too well with some of the Pakistani faithful. The most prominent of these people is none other than former skipper and coach Javed Miandad. It has been reported that Miandad was shocked and hurt following the ‘shameful’ comments made by Shahid Afridi. Miandad also questioned the contribution of Indian cricket towards Pakistan. He added that they should be ashamed of themselves for making such sweeping and blatant statements.

“These cricketers should be ashamed of themselves for saying such a thing. Shame on you,” he said. Miandad also lashed out at Shoaib Malik for speaking to the media regarding the Indian support that Pakistan has for the World T20.

“What have the Indians given us? Speak the truth even while in India. For the last five years, what have they given us or done with Pakistan cricket. Having served Pakistan cricket for so many years I am shocked and hurt to hear such comments from our players,” he added.

Javed Miandad, a veteran for Pakistan in yesteryear, has also stated that the Pakistan authorities, the PCB in particular, must take severe action against these remarks made by the players. “The job of this team is to go and play well in India not make such unnecessary comments,” he said.

Miandad has been perhaps the best batsman to be produced by Pakistan with 124 Test matches to his name.
