Former Pakistan captain and head coach Javed Miandad has sent out a strong message to the players involved in match-fixing. The 59-year-old demanded death penalty for players found guilty of match-fixing. Miandad also added that strong laws and enforcement should be in place to prevent the players from committing such sins.
“Authorities must take measures to stop this (corruption in Cricket). Why don’t you take strong measures? You should give death penalty to such people,” Miandad said while he commented on the recent spot-fixing scandal that has hit the Pakistan Super League.
One such player who was caught on account of spot-fixing is Nasir Jamshed, who was further suspended from all forms of cricket for violating the code of anti-corruption. Sharjeel Khan and Khalid Latif are the other two names that the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) identified for their involvement with the bookies during the PSL.
In the recent lot of players provisionally suspended for their involvement and association in the spot-fixing scandal is the 7-feet left-arm quick Mohammad Irfan after the pace bowler admitted to being approached by the bookies during the ongoing season of the PSL.
Miandad, further said that strictest of punishments would save the thousands of cricketers in the future from getting inclined towards malpractices. He continued to blame the attitude and upbringing of a cricketer, as according to him the way one behaves also shapes the outcome of his career.
“There is a problem that we do not have the courage to call a spade a spade. Everyone is running after money and in such a scenario, what can you do?” he said.
