Indian off-spinner Jayant Yadav has soon made a reputation for himself. In such a short span of time, the off-spinner from Haryana has managed to draw the attention of stalwarts of the game. He has been impressive in the two matches that he has played thus far. Yadav has been successful in playing the second fiddle to R Ashwin in the side.
His batting has been great too. Batting with the tail, he has shown great temperament to play the long innings. Jayant Yadav scored a brilliant fifty in his second Test. Playing in the Mohali Test, he batted at number 9 and brought up a handy fifty that helped India take a massive lead against England. Talking to the BCCI.tv, Yadav spoke about his batting at length.
Jayant Yadav is not a new bloke with the bat. He has been batting brilliantly in the domestic circuit for Haryana. He was once involved in a marathon partnership with Virender Sehwag in a Ranji Trophy match. He has a First Class double century to his name as well. Talking about his batting, Yadav said that he has been working on the technical aspect of it. He credited the batting coach Sanjay Bangar for helping him improve his game.
“Batting comes naturally to me and I have been working on it in the nets this series. Me and Sanjay (Bangar) sir have been working on two things. One is getting my stance a bit wider so that I get more balance in the crease and secondly keeping my hands closer to my body so that I have better control over my hand. These are small technical things that we are working on. Hopefully, I continue to build from here on,” said Jayant Yadav.
He also credited his Ranji side Haryana for helping him become a better player. He thanked all the coaches who have worked with him and also the state cricket association.
“A lot of credit has to be given to HCA because they are the ones who instilled the confidence in me that I could bat well. Right from the coaches to Anirudh Chaudhry sir, they have pushed me to go up the order and bat. That gave me an extra added responsibility that I have to bat for long hours and play till the end. It was a habit that was inculcated in me in the domestic circuit,” Yadav quoted.
He recalled how he forged a 392 run stand with Amit Mishra in a Ranji Trophy match back in 2012. He quoted, “I have batted at number six, seven and eight. I actually started batting at number 9 and remember getting a double century with Mishi bhai (Amit Mishra) in 2012 in a Ranji Trophy game against Karnataka. We had shared a 392-run stand then.”
