The Mumbai Test proved to be the best for rookie off-spinner Jayant Yadav. Having made his debut in the ongoing series, he had scored a 30 and a half century coming into the fourth Test and when he walked out to the middle to join skipper Virat Kohli, the team was in a dire need for a partnership. Jayant who has shown a lot of maturity as a batsman got in there and didn’t just hang around but played his shots as well.

With a partner like Kohli at the other end who scored his third Test double century, Jayant also went on to register his maiden international century. He had a match-defining 241-run partnership with the skipper and that played a crucial role in the team winning the Test with an innings and 36 runs. While Jayant was fighting it out on the cricket field his grandmother was battling with life back in his hometown in Haryana.

After the end of the Test, he learnt that he had lost his grandmother. Jayant’s father, Jay Singh broke the disheartening news and said that he couldn’t witness the moment when his son got to the triple figures mark as he was travelling to Jalandhar to his in-laws place.

Dainik Jagran quoted Jay as saying:” When Jayant was scoring his century, I had left for Jalandhar because Jayant’s grandmother had died at that time and I missed his century. I got to know about Jayant’s knock through the phone when I was on my way to Jalandhar but I will always be disappointed to miss the moment.”

“I was getting a feeling that he will play a big innings today but at that very moment I received the sad news and I had to leave. When I got the message that Jayant has scored the century, I was confused whether to be happy or sad,” he added.
