Jayant Yadav has a nice and easy action: Sunil Gavaskar

While Jayant Yadav has been handed a debut by the Indian team management, Sunil Gavaskar has already come out in full praise of the 26-year old’s ability with both bat and ball. The ‘little master’, who himself had an impressive time in his debut match against the West Indies is certainly pleased about the way Yadav has been performing in international cricket lately.

The 27-year old’s Test career began with some impressive batting which saw him smash 35 runs before his athletic effort in the field that saw Haseeb Hameed run out. Gavaskar went on to illustrate the wicket and the athleticism shown by the off-spinner.

“I think it was an outstanding bit of fielding there by Jayant. The way he did a sliding stop such that he would get the ball on his throwing hand and then throwing it on the jump when off-balanced. When you are off-balanced you do not get the power or accuracy normally, but he managed to get both. The throw came pretty close to the stumps and a fantastic effort there by Saha to backhand the ball onto the stumps”, Gavaskar told NDTV after the second day of the Test at Visakhapatnam.

Sunil Gavaskar also went on to speak a few words on the bowling abilities of the 27-year old. Yadav also picked his first wicket in Test cricket. “He has got a nice easy run-up and action, he jumps high, he puts a lot of revolutions on the ball, has a nice follow through.”

“Everything looks right for him, he has got a wicket under his belt and will sleep a lot better today having contributed in all departments of the game. When you do that in your first Test, you tend to believe that you belong to the team, and he certainly belongs there,” the former opening batsman concluded.
