The good times for Indian Women’s team pacer  Jhulan Goswami continue as she is all set to have a cricket ball named after her. Recently, Goswami became the highest wicket-taker in ODIs for women. To commemorate her achievement, B. Dasgupta, in accordance with SS Sports have made a ball made with her name on it.

The special ball has been named “Bengal Tigress” in honour of Jhulan who hails from Nadia in West Bengal. An exclusive inauguration has been arranged for unveiling the ball, which will be attended by India team wicketkeeper-batsman Wriddhiman Saha and former Indian cricketer Utpal Chatterjee.

In an exclusive interview with www.xtratime.in, the owner of B.Dasgupta & Co. Somnath Dasgupta said, “We had planned it before but then she suffered an injury and as a result she had to miss out an entire tour. However I was certain that she would achieve this milestone real soon. I am also certain that no one from Bengal would be able to create this record in the next 100 years. Achieving this milestone is an almost impossible job.”

“Everyone knows about the cricketing journey of Jhulan. What she has achieved in her life, normal people like us could hardly dream what she has achieved. Honouring her would be a proud moment for us. Public memory is short as people will forget her when she retires. But we want her legacy to continue” Somnath Dasgupta said.

Jhulan Goswami ball in three sizes and slashed prices

Dasgupta also announced that the cricket ball named after the cricketer will be available in three sizes and will not command a high price in the market. “The ball has been named as “Bengal Tigress” and it will be available in three sizes. Namely the senior size, women’s size and juniors size. Most of the games are held in poor grounds and as a result special glace has been added to the ball for its longevity,” he said.

“The ball has been merely priced at Rs. 200.  But the lower price off the ball would not degrade the quality of the ball. The ball is certain to keep the name that has been given to it,” Dasgupta added.

Meanwhile, Jhulan Goswami expressed her gratitude towards Somnath Dasgupta for his gesture.

“This has been an extremely proud moment for me. Somnath da (Dasgupta) has also supported not only me but also other cricketers which he usually does. While I was touring in South Africa he came up with this idea and as a result I am eager to watch this new ball,” she shared.
