Former India Women’s team captain Jhulan Goswami has been one of the pillar stones of women’s cricket in India. She has been an integral part of the Indian team for almost a decade. In the recently concluded ICC Women’s World Cup 2017, Jhulan was instrumental in taking India to the finals of the coveted tournament. On the day of the final, she bowled an exceptional spell that restricted the eventual champions England Women for 228.

It was only unfortunate for Jhulan Goswami to have finished on the losing side. Jhulan still has the hunger to see the Indian team rise to the new heights. This is evident from the fact that she is the leading wicket taker in Women’s ODIs. Amidst all this, in a recent media interaction, Jhulan was asked about her personal life.

The question basically worked around the love life. In a reply that is bound to win a lot of hearts, the veteran cricketer conceded that her focus is on the game at the moment. She has no time for a relationship or a love angle for now. She feels one must have the time to justify a relationship. For now, she feels cricket is the priority.

“I am focusing on the game. I am so busy with it that I will not be able to devote time to anything else. If I cannot devote time to a relationship then I won’t be able to do justice to it. I would prefer to do one thing at a time. I have seen my friends. How they have had to struggle to balance two things at one time. There is a lot of time for that (relationship),” conceded Jhulan Goswami as per the quotes in Hindustan Times.

On her ways to unwind

The words of the 34-year old pacer clearly suggests that she has a sorted mindset for cricket. So does that mean she does not think about anything else at all? Well, it is definitely not so. Jhulan Goswami prefers to relax with classical music and movies.

“I love movies and music. In fact, before the semifinal and the final, I saw a couple of classic Bengali movies to divert my mind,” quoted Goswami.

On cricket in Bengal

Talking about the current state cricket in West Bengal, Jhulan expressed her satisfaction about the same. However, she feels that things can get a lot better if the women cricketers get more access to the game. “Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) has done a goood thing by starting district cricket but I feel it is as important to look into club cricket scenario in Kolkata. They have good infrastructure and it should be made accessible to women,” concluded Jhulan.
