Arguably the greatest bowler of women’s cricket, Jhulan Goswami is all set to retire from all forms of the game as the 39-year-old will be playing her last match against England in final ODI of the series at the iconic Lord’s stadium.
The veteran played a total of 283 international matches for India and picked up 353 wickets before her last international match. Goswami played cricket at the highest level for more than 19 years and is only behind Vera Esther Burt in the list of players with the longest career in women’s cricket.
Born in Nadia, West Bengal, the speedster is the leading wicket-taker in Women’s ODIs. She also led the Indian side on multiple occasions and was ICC’s Women's Player of Year in 2007. She has played a massive role in the growth of women’s cricket in India and will be a role model for generations to come.
Popularly known as the Chakda express, Goswami has done a lot of commercials and has also endorsed a lot of brands over the years. Inspired by her story, a film is also being made about her and the famous Bollywood actress Anushka Sharma will be seen playing the role of Jhulan Goswami in the movie, ‘Chakda Xpress.’
Even though in the majority of her time as an Indian cricketer, she was part of the BCCI’s Grade A central contract but in January 2020, Goswami was given a grade B contract by BCCI. As per the contract, the speedster earns INR 30 lakhs from the Indian board.
Apart from that, the 39-year-old also earns from her match fees for playing for India. Jhulan also represents West Bengal in domestic cricket and is expected to earn around INR 20,000 -25,000 for every match that she plays. The Indian board has not revealed her earnings for playing in the Women’s T20 Challenge but they are expected to be around INR 30-50 lakhs.
She is also seen endorsing a lot of brands including Boost, Sareen Sports, PK Sporting etc. Overall, the cricketer is expected to earn around INR 8 crores in 2022.
