Opening batsman Joe Burns and Victoria Bushrangers senior batsman Callum Ferguson have been called up by the Australian selectors following an injury to opener Shaun Marsh. Medical reports from the physiotherapists confirm that Marsh has once again broken the finger he had previously injured on the tour of Sri Lanka.
The Australian selectors have had a terrible time with the injuries in recent months especially with fatigue playing a massive part in most injuries. Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazelwood skipped the tour of South Africa following which the Aussie selectors were forced to go ahead with three debutants for the series.
Among these, only Southern Redbacks pacer Joe Mennie has managed to impress the selectors and keep his place with the likes of David Worrall sent back into the doldrums of the Sheffield Shield. A tweet released by Cricket Australia also read the same.
“Shaun Marsh is out of the second Test with a broken finger. Joe Burns and Callum Ferguson add the Australia squad #AUSvSA”

While Joe Burns has been in and out of the side, Callum Ferguson is returning to the side after a five-year hiatus. He is a veteran of 30 ODIs and the last ODI he played was against Bangladesh in Dhaka in April 2011. He will be hoping to get the nod ahead of the likes of Joe Burns and Joe Mennie, especially after the Aussies lost their first Test against the Proteas at Perth.
