Player vs Player is a common phenomenon in sports. Outstanding names of the same era often get compared and are pitted against each by the fans. There was Gavaskar v Miandad, Lara v Tendulkar, Muralitharan v Warne and the list goes on. Every generation has had such comparison mainly due to the extraordinary talent they boast of.

While all the above-mentioned names are past now, the generation has four batsmen competing to become the superior batsman of this generation. They are – Kane Williamson, Steve Smith, Joe Root and Virat Kohli. These four batsmen are obviously a notch higher in terms of talent and achievement among the current crop of batsmen. In fact, all four are the batting mainstays of their respective teams. Thereby, it’s natural for the fans to put them in one list and compare who is better than whom.

There are many way to compare but most recently when England travelled for the 5 match Test series hosted by England, the Virat v Root topic was trending all over the twitter. Fans have their own way of making decision, they quarrel, argue, debate, fight and even take thing to abusive levels. But, the most appropriate way to settle the issues is to know what opinions these two have in their mind for each other.

In a recent interview with ECB spokesperson, Kohli was asked about his opinion regarding Root and his abilities. And, as expected Kohli acknowledged the future English skipper’s batting ability ad also wished him a lot of luck for the future hoping that he could play against Root again.

“Joe is one of my favourite batsmen in world cricket along with David Warner and Kane Williamson. I haven’t spoken with him a lot but I admire the way he plays. He is an all format batsman and that’s something I really appreciate. He has always been a strong Test player.”

“The way he played in the T20 World Cup that was a revelation for me and I thought and I was like wow. He is very smart and he knows his game inside out. It’s very evident. He is a very competent guy and you love to play against such guys on the field. I love watching him bat as well. So, I wish him all the luck and hopefully we can play a lot more against each other peak about the game as well.”
