Four years ago, England crashed out of the 2015 World Cup in the group stages. The defeat to Bangladesh meant that they couldn’t proceed ahead of the tournament. However, in hindsight, it seems to be the best thing that’s happened to them. The England ODI team has taken a 360-degree turn and has emerged as one of the hot favourites to win the upcoming 2019 World Cup, starting May 30.

They are the No. 1 ODI team and have the best win-loss ratio (2.304) since the last World Cup. No other team, barring India has a win-loss ratio of more than 2. The Eoin Morgan-led side has been pretty dominant in the 50-over format. England have built this reputation of the best ODI team on the back of their batting might.

Even though their bowling has tended to be expensive, they have found a way to get the job done. They have four bowlers who have taken 50 or more wickets since the last World Cup. In fact, Adil Rashid is the leading wicket-taker in the aforementioned period.

We’ll have a look and see how Archer goes: Morgan

Just ahead of the World Cup, there’s a certain Barbados-born fast bowler who has been creating headlines. Jofra Archer is now eligible to play for England. The England and Wales Cricket Board amended their residency rules and hence, it made Archer eligible to play for the national side.

The Barbados-born fast bowler has played T20 leagues around the world and has done exceedingly well which has tempted the England team management to have a closer look at him. There’s been a lot of hype around his availability. Eoin Morgan admitted that they want to see how he shapes up in national colours. Hence, Archer might well make his international debut against Pakistan in May.

“The hype about Jofra playing around the world and doing well and attracting a lot of attention is justified as he has put in performances that warrant looking at. Trevor Bayliss said after the West Indies series we will look at him against Pakistan [who England play in five ODIs in May] and that’s what we will do,” Eoin Morgan was quoted saying during an ICC event in Manchester.
