All of us remember the man who bowled the last over in the 2007 World T20 final and got Misbah caught out at short fine leg. If you remember him correctly, the name was Joginder Sharma and the medium pacer came out of nowhere to become a national hero.

No one can forget his brilliant performance throughout the World T20 in 2007, especially in the semi-finals against Australia and in the all-important final against Pakistan. He kept his cool despite Misbah-ul-Haq going hammer and tongs at the other end and having hit 2 sixes in an over from ace spinner Harbhajan Singh.

Dhoni showed confidence in Joginder and despite being hit for a six and after having bowled a wide, Joginder managed to pick up Misbah’s wicket to give India the win and the World T20 championship.

After that life turned around completely for the Haryana player, who played for the Chennai Super Kings in the couple of seasons of IPL. After that the Joginder went into oblivion after being facilitated by the government of Haryana for his contribution to the World Cup win.

He was also given a government job in the Haryana Police force on the post of Deputy Superintendent of Police in October of 2007. Now at present, after nine years, he has worked hard at the job and now is the Deputy Commissioner of Police in the Haryana Police department. This happened after he was involved in a serious car crash in 2011.

Joginder suffered serious head and spinal injuries in the crash and spent a lot of time in the ICU. Before that he had tried his best to break into the Indian team without much success. But being the fighter he is, he fought his way out of the situation and now has worked hard enough to become such a senior officer in the police force of a reputed police force in the country.

There have been cases of cricketers picking up a totally different profession after their playing days are over, but this case of Joginder Sharma is completely different and extremely encouraging to everyone out there.
