Former South African batsman, Jonty Rhodes, who also is the fielding coach for the IPL team Mumbai Indians, has recently ranked Ravindra Jadeja and Suresh Raina as two of the best fielders in World Cricket presently. New Zealand batsman Martin Guptill features third in the Jonty Rhodes’ list of top fielders.

Jonty Rhodes, who himself was responsible for revolutionising fielding and transforming it as a specific department of the game, named two Indians in his list which in itself is a testimony of the improvement the side has made in the last decade.

Jonty Rhodes is currently playing the role of an expert analyst in Star Sports network while covering the ongoing Champions Trophy. He spoke to the official broadcaster Star Sports ahead of the much-hyped India-South Africa game today at Kennington Oval. The two sides clash to determine the third team to book their berth in semi-finals of the tournament.

Rhodes false claims for Sachin’s catch

“Currently, that’s pretty tough. India will probably have a couple. Suresh Raina is not playing in the ICC Champions Trophy but I love watching him. ‘Jaddu’ (Jadeja) is superb at backward point. His arm is deadly and very quick across the ground. I think Martin Guptill from New Zealand is right up there.” pointed out the best fielder the game has ever produced according to Indian Express. When asked about the best moment he has been a part of while played against the Indian team, Rhodes had an interesting reply to that.

“The only one I can remember is when I caught Sachin Tendulkar in a game in Durban because every time I visit india, they tell me that ‘the catch that you caught Sachin, it bounced’. Otherwise, I forget everything, I’ve got very selective memory.” replied Jonty Rhodes. Indians are on their way to defeat the Proteas yet again in an ICC event.
