After being rested for the T20I series against Pakistan, Jofra Archer and Jos Buttler have been called up for England’s limited-overs series against Australia. England will play three ODIs and as many T20Is against Ashes rivals.

Joe Root hasn’t been included in the T20I squad but he’s a part of the three-match ODI series. Mark Wood and Sam Curran have been included in both T20I and ODI squads while Chris Woakes has been slotted into the 50-overs side. Eoin Morgan will be leading the side in both the formats.

England aren’t quite back to their full strength as Jason Roy and Ben Stokes won’t be a part of the series. A left side strain prevented Roy from playing in the T20 series against Pakistan while Stokes is unavailable due to family reasons.

Root’s exclusion from the T20I has also raised eyebrows as he hasn’t donned the England jersey in the shortest format for over a year now. Root, the third-highest run-scorer at the 2016 T20 World Cup, will be eager to break into the T20 side soon.

We have selected strong squads: Ed Smith

England have chosen Liam Livingstone and Saqib Mahmood as the two reserves in the shortest format. For the ODI series, they’ve gone with Joe Denly along with Mahmood. National selector Ed Smith also expressed his excitement ahead of the series, which will be an exciting end to the summer. “These two series against Australia provide an exciting end to the summer. We have selected strong squads. We are also continuing to develop depth in preparation for the upcoming T20 World Cups,” said Ed Smith.
