Jos Buttler, despite being a few hundred miles away from the action in England took to twitter to troll his Test skipper Alastair Cook as the 10,000 run mark beckoned for the England skipper. The southpaw needed just 36 runs to become the first England batsman to complete 10,000 runs in Test cricket. Just when the match was on, Jos Buttler took a dig on Alastair Cook on Twitter mentioning, “Cook to horn 6 sixes in an over to get to 10,000??”

James Taylor, who recently announced his retirement due to illness joined in on the fun as he tagged Cook along with a few smiley emojis to go along with it. However, Buttler’s ill-fated comments took seemed to jinx the situation as Cook was dismissed by the teasing pace of Dasun Shanka after scoring 16 off 52 deliveries. Shanaka was to strike twice after that as the Brits were reeling at 57-3 going into the lunch interval.

The 31-year old Cook was 36 runs adrift of becoming the first Brit as well as the 12th player in Test match history to score 10,000 runs in Test match cricket. Prior to the start of the match, Cook has said: “It would mean a lot and hopefully I can get there sooner rather than later so we can talk about something else. It’s a big milestone in terms of the people who have done it previously so it would be great to try and score these 36 runs. I’ve just got to put that to bed after this press conference and try and do what I’ve done in the previous 10 years, which is just try and concentrate on that ball coming down and nothing else.”

In their previous tour of England, the Lankans had secured a thrilling win in the Test series, winning the second Test by 100 runs. Cook’s captaincy was severely criticized following the loss.
