Josh Philippe gives an epic reaction after his bizarre dismissal against Melbourne Renegades

The ongoing Big Bash League has seen a plethora of gobsmacking moments thus far. From Rashid Khan unleashing his ‘Camel’ bat to Dale Steyn’s whirlwind debut over to the hilarious on-field bloopers, the tournament has provided for pulsating viewing thus far.

And, Thursday’s encounter between Sydney Sixers and defending champions Melbourne Renegades was no different. In the end, Sixers’ triumphed over the defending champions, commending them to their fifth consecutive defeat in the tournament. But, before that, there were 40 overs of action-packed edge-of-the-seat stuff.

Firstly, it was Renegades’ opener Sam Harper, who set the ball rolling with a swashbuckling 24-ball 45- an innings which included seven pristine boundaries and one monstrous six. But, the moment of the day- not the one that he would like to remember- belonged to Sixers’ wicketkeeper-batsman and the newest Royal Challengers Bangalore recruit Josh Philippe.

Philippe, who shot into limelight when he scored a gobsmacking 44-ball 81 in the Sixers’ tournament opener against Perth Scorchers, was looking prime for another whirlwind knock before his innings was abruptly cut-short in what can be termed as an unfortunate dismissal.

The dismissal took place in 9th over when Philippe in an attempt to hit across the line to Andrews was clean bowled after the long hop by the bowler remained agonizingly low, only to crash into the middle stump. And, Philippe’s shellshocked reaction gave a chance to the social media team of the Big Bash League with what is now cult meme of a Pakistani fan standing in utter shock after seeing one of the many fielding bloopers from his side.

Sydney Sixers consign Melbourne Renegades to their fifth consecutive defeat of the season

Philippe was dismissed for a 30-ball 33, as Andrews gave his side a much-needed breakthrough by breaking the belligerent first-wicket partnership between Daniel Hughes [40] and the wicketkeeper-batsman. Philippe’s dismissal led to a mini-collapse as Sixers fell from 0-70 to 3-80 in a space of two overs but that didn’t stop his side from successfully overhauling the target of 154, set by the Melbourne Renegades.

Post the collapse, James Vince [41] and Jordan Silk, who scored an unbeaten 26-ball 36 steadied the ship with a 57-run stand for the fourth wicket, eventually leading their side to a six-wicket win.
