South African allrounder Jean-Paul Duminy has decided to skip the tenth edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). He was a part of the Delhi Daredevils team in the previous edition of the tournament and also led the team on occasions when Zaheer Khan wasn’t involved. DD had retained him going into IPL 2017 but he has decided to reserve his participation this time.

JP Duminy backing off will hurt the balance of the team since they had planned the lineup in a different way and didn’t invest in a spin bowling allrounder during the auction. In the auction for the upcoming season of the tournament, DD management picked two international allrounders in Angelo Mathews and Corey Anderson for INR 2 and 1 crore respectively. They also added pace to their bowling attack with the addition of South African speedster Kagiso Rabada and Australia’s Pat Cummins.

Duminy has been a part of the IPL team in seven out of the last nine seasons of the tournament and has featured in 77 matches scoring 1596 runs at an average of 39.86. With his part-time off-break he also dismissed 23 batsmen in his journey in the IPL thus far. He has been a part of the Deccan Chargers, Mumbai Indians, Sunrisers Hyderabad teams before being picked by the Daredevils in 2014, he was appointed the captain in 2016.

He is currently in New Zealand with the South African Test team and though he picked 4 wickets in the first inning of the 2nd Test hasn’t quite been in the best of forms with the bat. Duminy hasn’t scored a single fifty plus score in his last 10 international innings.

In the 2015-16 season, he played 9 T20Is and scored 224 runs with the best of 68*, a superlative average of 74.66 and an impressive strike rate of 136.58.

This is how the DD full squad for IPL 2017 looks like now:

Mohammed Shami, Quinton de Kock, Shahbaz Nadeem, Jayant Yadav, Amit Mishra, Shreyas Iyer, Zaheer Khan (captain), Sam Billings, Sanju Samson, Chris Morris, Carlos Brathwaite, Karun Nair, Rishabh Pant, CV Milind, Syed Ahmed, Pratyush Singh, Angelo Mathews , Corey Anderson, Kagiso Rabada, Pat Cummins, Ankit Bawne, Aditya Tare, Murugan Ashwin, Navdeep Saini, Shashank Singh.
