The fast bowlers of Jharkhand are all set to benefit from the expertise of former English County cricketer Steffan Jones. The Jharkhand State Cricket Association (JSCA) has invited Jones to conduct a 10 day practice camp for the leading pace bowlers of the state. The camp will be conducted before the domestic season of 2017-18 gets underway.
The 43-year old Steffan Jones has been one of the leading pace bowling trainers and is renowned for including the biomechanics in his teaching methodologies. He was associated with the Hobart Hurricanes team in the Big Bash League last year. The camp will get underway on August 27. Jones will not only work on the physical aspects but also the mental aspects of the game. As per the reports in SportStarLive.com, the JSCA secretary Debashish Chakraborty confirmed the same news.
“It will be a pre-season camp where the bowlers from all the teams (U-16, U-19, U-23 and Ranji Trophy) will participate. This will help the boys get a head start before the season. This will help them monitor the bowlers throughout the season. This session will be beneficial for all the players,” he quoted.
Varun Aaron excited to be part of the training
The camp will see the likes of Varun Aaron be a part of it. Aaron is one of the leading pacers from the state and has been retained as the captain of the side for the upcoming season as well. He commented that he is very excited for the camp.
“I am looking forward to it. The season is really important for me and the team. As the captain, I would definitely want to win the Ranji Trophy. We lost the semi-finals last time. Personally, I am trying to put up a good show before the South Africa tour. So, this will help,” he said.
Prior to his stint in Ranchi, Steffan Jones will be spending some time at the renowned cricket academy at Bengaluru – Karnataka Institute of Cricket.
