Pakistan pacer Junaid Khan who had an important role to play in Pakistan’s Champions Trophy triumph said that Pakistan silenced their critics in the most appropriate way when everyone ruled Pakistan off before the start of the tournament.

According to the left arm fast bowler, no one thought even in their wildest dreams that Pakistan would end up winning the tournament. But the team always believed that they have the potential to do it and never doubted their capabilities.

The player was mobbed by the media at the Swabi Interchange on the Islamabad-Peshawar Motorway when he spoke to them after landing in Islamabad from London.

Labelling the gigantic victory as a matter of pride, Junaid added “We were under pressure but had nothing to lose.” The batsmen performed superbly in the last match while the bowlers continued their commendable performance.”

On the reasons behind the big win:

Junaid Khan went on to thank the Pakistan Cricket Board for their constant support throughout the tournament. He gave credit to the PCB for sending the players to England much before the start of the tournament which allowed them to get accustomed to environment and ground conditions.

The 27-year-old highlighted the fact that the Pakistan Super League (PSL) also played a huge role in their success. It has been responsible for digging out fresh and promising talents who performed exceptionally in the Champions Trophy and earned the victory for the nation.

“Senior international players point out how we have won despite having played no cricket at home for almost a decade,” said Junaid.

Junaid Khan revealed that the players do not fast on match days because it can affect their performance on the field. Staying without food can take a toll on the players both physically and mentally.

Junaid first arrived at the Benazir Bhutto International Airport where he needed the help of strong security management to get him through a huge crowd of fans.
