Suspended Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) cricketer Jupiter Ghosh of the Rangpur Riders who is a right-arm medium-fast bowler and a right-handed batsman has alleged that former Bangladesh cricketer and Rangpur team manager Sanwar Hossain had approached him with an illegally offer before he eventually signed the official contract ahead of BPL season 4.
The Rangpur team has been in bad light for match-fixing issues of late and this allegation adds fuel to fire. The team management on its part has tried to come clean on the issue and have denied the allegations that were darted at them after the suspension of Jupiter with a press release.
As per the release from Rangpur team, they look at it as an attempt to damage the image of the franchise by a group of individuals that includes Jupiter after the cricketer was suspended recently citing disciplinary issues as the reason.
Dhaka Tribune quoted Jupiter saying that he hadn’t made any disciplinary mistake and he was suspended without a substantial cause. He also said that irrespective of what the team claims the case is that Rangpur manager Hossain had approached him illegally before he signed the official contract with the team.
“I was given some illegal offer by Rangpur manager Sanwar before I signed the contract, which I obviously declined. But after I signed the contract with Rangpur on November 4, all of a sudden the team management started to provide illogical allegations against me, citing disciplinary issues, which I didn’t do.” He said.
“I am going to inform everything to the Bangladesh Cricket Board’s anti-corruption security unit (Monday),” Jupiter was quoted by Dhaka Tribune as saying on Sunday.
Ismail Haider Mallick BPL governing council member secretary when asked for his comments on the same said, “We will investigate the matter soon.”
