Former Royal Challengers Bangalore skipper Virat Kohli, after two good innings, went back to his poor form in the game after being dismissed for a golden duck in the ongoing clash against the Sunrisers Hyderabad. This was the third time that Kohli was dismissed for a golden duck in the IPL 2022.

Virat Kohli needed just one run to reach 6500 IPL runs, but his wait was extended by Jagadeesha Suchith, who scalped his wicket on the very first ball of the game. Kohli, on his very first delivery, attempted to flick Suchith’s ball that was drifting into his pads and chipped it towards Kane Williamson to lose his wicket early. With a total of 216 runs from 12 games, Kohli’s average has dropped to 19.64.

Of the 12 games, he has only one half-century to his name whereby he struggled to take his team’s scoreboard to a fine total. Just when it seemed like the 33-year-old had gained his mojo back, he had to walk back all the way back with his head down, once again. It was skipper Faf du Plessis’ idea to bat first after winning the toss, but it backfired with the early wicket.

Kohli’s worst season in the history of IPL

Since the inception of the IPL in 2008, this has been Kohli’s worst season with the bat. Since the COVID-induced break ended, his form has steadily deteriorated over the past few seasons of the league. Since 2019, the Delhi-born cricketer has not achieved a century in any format of the game as his wait to get his 71st century continues.

His scores in the last five innings, before the SRH clash read as 30(33), 58(53), 9(10), 0(1), and 0(1) as he has added another zero-figure score. But the experience that Kohli brings to the side is incomparable. Even after such low scores, he keeps his spirit high in the game and put out his best for the remaining part.

For the past few games, he has been opening the innings for his side, and the two good scores of the above-mentioned five prove that he can be a great option as an opener. In fact, Kohli’s best in the IPL came as an opener. He has scored five IPL centuries while playing at the opening position for RCB. Meanwhile, the fans were disappointed with yet another duck from Virat Kohli and hoped that he returns to his usual self soon.

Here’s how Twitter reacted to Virat Kohli’s dismissal against SRH:
