Justice Mudgal feels that the Indian players should enjoy at least a 15 days off between the Indian Premier League and the next assignment, the Champions Trophy in this case. And this thought is echoed by many others who feel that a gap is needed after playing the IPL daily for 2 months.

This time around, the players got just 10 days after IPL 10 ended and the start of their CT 2017 campaign. The T20 league ended on 21st May, and Champions Trophy begins on June 1. Many people feel that inadequate time has been given to the players before embarking on their quest to regain the coveted trophy.

“That is the ideal situation. It should be about 10 to 15 days gap between the IPL and the next international tournament; the players are not getting it. But please remember that all the players were not playing finals. So, those who were playing finals may need a little more rest. Ideally it should be 15 days, but now the international calendar has become so tight that perhaps it is not possible to do so,” Justice Mukul Mugdal was quoted as saying by ANI.

Hoping for a better IPL schedule next year

IPL cannot be ignored because it is one of the biggest revenue making platforms for the BCCI. But that also does not mean that international commitments should be paramount. Mudgal hopes that better IPL schedule will be prepared from next year onwards.

“I hope they will prepare a better calendar next year,” he said.

“BCCI have enough money” – Justice Mugdal

He also backed the Indian captain Virat Kohli and head coach of the team Anil Kumble’s proposal for the raise in their pay and justified it saying that the BCCI have enough money and they should pay adequately.

The Champions Trophy begins on June 1 in England and Wales, with India’s first game scheduled for June 4 against arch-rivals Pakistan.
