Fresh from being picked by the Delhi Daredevils franchise for the forthcoming IPL 2017, Kagiso Rabada was praised for his consistent show by his South Africa and soon to be IPL teammate JP Duminy. The 21-year-old promising fast bowler missed out on playing the second ODI match against New Zealand at Christchurch due to a knee injury.

Rabada has been part of most of the international fixtures South African has played since his debut. The speedster had to weigh massive international workload and has bowled most over- 431.3 overs in the Proteas ranks. He was seen bowling with a tapped knee ahead of the third ODI against New Zealand.

He is likely to feature in the 3-match Test series, which will be played after the limited-overs series. After which he will fly to India to participate in the IPL. “He has been stalwart for us for a while now,” said JP Duminy on Thursday (February 23). “He has been our main strike bowler in most formats and it’s always a great strength for us to have him in our attack. It will be good to see him back” Duminy said.

South Africa went into the 2nd ODI with a 12-match unbeaten streak, which was finally broken, courtesy some outstanding display of bowling by the New Zealand bowlers especially Trent Boult. Duminy said that they knew it was bound to happen at some point but the boys are focussed.

“It was kind of inevitable at some point we’d lose a game. It’s something we have spoken about, that it doesn’t put us in any different situation in terms of where we’re trying to go as a team, our preparation and our goals. We’re trying to work towards the Champions Trophy and it’s probably a good thing to go through a few losses along the way to bring us back down to earth and understand there are certain things we still have to improve on,” Duminy concluded.
