Kane Williamson the man who brings calmness and equipoise in the Kiwi batting line up: In the last few years as the era of the 90s came to an end, a new era, a new brand of batsmanship has come to the fore. The departure of the Sachin Tendulkar, Ricky Ponting, Jacques Kallis has made the game of cricket poorer, but there are a bunch of youngsters who have gone on to redefine the game. AB de Villiers, Steve Smith, David Warner, Virat Kohli all of these are the modern day heroes. But as Allan Border says, and I agree with him, that Kane is probably the best out there. Border went on to say that he would choose Kane Williamson if he had to choose someone to bat for his life from the current crop of batsmen.

At a young age of 25, he has captured the imagination of the cricketing world. What makes Border pick Kane ahead of everyone else is probably his technique. In the era of slam-bang batsmen, his batting is a pure joy to watch. Lovers of the game would agree when I say that when it comes to technique, there is hardly any batsman who comes close to Kane Williamson, and his presence on the wicket is quite serene. With the patience that he exhibits and his immaculate shot-making, the word Genius isn’t too far away when Kane is at the crease.

For almost a decade, Brendon McCullum and Ross Taylor had been the poster boys of New Zealand cricket, naturally attacking, playing audacious shots and defining the brand of cricket New Zealand wanted to play. The sight of Kane Williamson amidst all this was calming, Kane a player who exudes calmness, confidence in his teammates and has this amazing flair in his batting was something New Zealand were always looking for.

His copybook drives, presenting the full face of the bat makes him a treat to watch. He has played a lot of amazing innings this year. But his 50 against Australia in the World Cup is one of my favourites and a highly underrated knock. With wickets falling on the other end, Williamson batted like a rock and sealed the victory for his side with an uncanny six with only a wicket to spare. That was a game that not many Kiwis will forget.

In the on-going series too, he has shown his class with a couple of fighting hundreds while facing an uphill task of overcoming a huge total set by Australia after batting first in both the Tests. He has already been piped to break every New Zealand batting record there is, through the course of his career, I wouldn’t be surprised if he becomes one of the leading batsmen of all time, a legend.

He has a lot of time in his hands and one can only be optimistic about his potential achievements in the years to come. Kane surely has become the anchor around which the whole team bats and the next few months will be exciting as hr continues his empirical rise and takes his sail to uncharted territories, where no Kiwi batsman has sailed out yet.
