Kapil Dev comments about MS Dhoni's on-field behavior

Former India captain and 1983 World Cup winner Kapil Dev criticized current Indian skipper MS Dhoni on the way he carries himself on the pitch during a game. Kapil Dev was speaking at the Salaam Cricket Conclave, organized by the news channel Aaj Tak. Apart from Kapil Dev, former players like Sourav Ganguly, Inzamam-ul-Haq, Mohd Azharuddin, Virender Sehwag, VVS Laxman, Gautam Gambhir, RP Singh and Joginder Sharma attended the conclave.

Kapil Dev said that even though Dhoni’s cool temperament has won him lots of applause, especially when India wins a match under immense pressure, his behavior towards the youngsters in the team warrants improvement. Kapil said that when a fielder concedes a boundary, he looks at the captain and that Dhoni’s behavior just does not give the debutant confidence after the event. He said that Dhoni should walk up to the youngster and encourage him and instill confidence in him that these things happens and he should give more than 100% on the field. But Dhoni is just too calm on the field according to Kapil Dev.

The attendees were also asked to pick their 4 favorites to win the World T20 2016. Kapil Dev picked India, Australia, Pakistan and South Africa as his favorites to become champions in this edition. He said that the nature of pitches in the World T20 is still to be seen and even England has outside chance, given their form recently.

His comments about MS Dhoni’s conduct on-field will not go down well with his fans as MS Dhoni’s way of playing matches has won him heaps of matches including 2 World Cups and a Champions Trophy. Even Kapil said a few days back that Dhoni was the sort of captain; Pakistan would need in order to become a world beating side.
