Former Indian captain Kapil Dev has shown no mercy on the Indian cricketers following the hectic schedule they are having at the moment. At a recent press conference in Bengaluru, he mentioned that the players should accept this schedule since they are professional cricketers. Also, the fact that the Indian team has been talking so much about ‘fitness’ in the recent times, only makes it justifiable to have a tough schedule lined up.

Team India has been playing consistently since the conclusion of the ICC Champions Trophy. The Indian captain Virat Kohli had mentioned that the task is getting a little hectic nowadays. He had also cited that the teams like New Zealand are getting enough rest to keep themselves fit.

“Yes [schedule is hectic], but they [Kohli and Co.] are professionals. No mercy to any cricketer. As a professional, one can say he doesn’t want to play and opt for rest. One can take a call. If you take a break, then someone else will get a chance. If it is an amataeur sport, then we can say ‘only this much should be played’,” quoted Kapil Dev as per the quotes in IBTimes.

Proud of the ahievements

At the same time, Kapil Dev expressed his happiness over the fact that the Indian cricket team is dominating every format of the game. He mentioned that the fitness levels of the players really deserve appreciation. He added that the same level of fitness could not have been expected by the players a couple of decades ago for sure.

“Well done, Indian team, We’re proud of you. India is dominating in every form of game. Despite so much things happening in the board, happening in the court, the players are playing so well. As a person who always believes in fitness, it is nice to see this. Cricket has reached such a level that your fitness is more important than your ability of getting runs or wickets. That is huge change in our country. Half of the cricketers who played the game 20-30 years back would not be able to play today. It is very tough,” he conceded.
