Though Team India won both the ODI and T20I series against New Zealand, every Indian cricketer, no matter retired or current, is facing the same question which has nothing to do with the series- should MS Dhoni retire? If you ask VVS Laxman, Ajit Agarkar and Aakash Chopra this question, the reply might be positive. However, former Indian skipper Kapil Dev feels Dhoni still has something to give to the Indian team.

The man from Ranchi failed to perform in the recently concluded series, which opened the floodgates for the questions. Those who are in support of Dhoni’s retirement are using his age to validate their point. However, Kapil said Sachin Tendulkar was 38 when India won the World Cup, hence Dhoni can still continue playing.

“I do not understand why so many people are on his back after a couple of average performances. Age definitely doesn’t have anything to do with it. Sachin was 38 when we won the World Cup and nobody was saying anything then. Even if he is axed from the team, whom will they get?,” said the World Cup-winning skipper from Chandigarh, as per reports in the Times of India.

Though young spin-twins of the Indian team, Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal don’t possess a lot of experience, they have nailed their place on Virat Kohli’s XI by the virtue of their extraordinary performances, thereby snatching the places of vastly experienced campaigners Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja. When Dev was asked about this, he said, “In the Indian team, there is no such thing as seniority. Performances dictate selection and that is why Kuldeep and Chahal have kept their place in the limited overs side.”

Hardik can become better than me: Kapil Dev

After a long time, the Men in Blue have got a player who can bowl at a good pace and can till the ball into the moon. As a result, many cricket pundits have started comparing India’s new star in their shining night sky, Hardik Pandya with Kapil Dev.

When the legend himself was asked about this, he stated: “Hardik has the talent to become better than me and he just needs to keep playing as he is.”
