Karun Nair, the Karnataka middle order batsman, who became a household name after his record-breaking triple century against England few days back, is currently unwell having suffered from a lower abdominal pain. He felt the issue during Karnataka’s quarterfinal game against Tamil Nadu when he walked out to bat on day 1 and later underwent a scan at Vizag last night.

Karun had an unsatisfying outing and as he was unable to rescue his team from the downfall. Karnataka had already lost 4 wickets for 44 runs before he came in but could manage only 14 before getting out to Aswin Crist off the very first ball after lunch with the scorecard reading 72-7. His team, eventually, was rattled for just 88 in the first innings with Aswin Crist capturing his career-best haul of 6/31 on a green-top in place at the ADA-VDCA Stadium in Vizag. KL Rahul and Manish Pandey, the other two star batsmen who were at Chennai in the Indian team were unable to make any difference.

Nair, who brought in after injuries to Ajinkya Rahane and Rohit Sharma, pounced on he opportunity made himself the only second Indian after Virender Sehwag to reach the triple century mark. Nair, in just his third Test innings, struck an unbeaten 303 on the fifth day of the final Test between India and England which the tourist eventually lost by an innings and 75 runs. With this win, India secured a 4-0 win and reclaimed the Anthony D’Mello Trophy.

Karun had a slice of luck when he was on 34 as Alastair Cook dropped him in the slip cordon when he was batting on 34. He was also saved by Jonny Bairstow when he was on 246 as the wicket-keeper failed to collect the ball when Karun was way out of his crease.
