At the age of 32, Kedar Jadhav has played very few international games for his country. However, he has scored plenty of crucial runs for India in the limited opportunities he got. Nevertheless, lately, he has been a tad out of touch and has struggled for runs. Consequently, he was dropped from the T20I squad against New Zealand. Also, the recent conundrum of who should bat at the number four slot for India in white-ball cricket has also led to the ouster of the Maharashtra-born batsman.

In 2017, Kedar played 25 One-Day Internationals and came in at four different positions, 4, 5, 6 and 7 respectively. Interacting with the media regarding the issue, Jadhav said that he is ready to bat at any position in order to cater to the needs of the national team.

“Position does not matter to me, as long as team is winning. I am ready to bat at any position for India,” he said during the Red Carpet at the Inaugural Indian Sports Honours Award.

Jadhav also expressed his jubilation on receiving the award. “It’s a great recognition for whatever you have done in last one year,” the middle-order batsman added. The event was organised to recognise Indian players for their contribution towards various sports. Former and present cricketers including the likes of Virat Kohli, Ravichandran Ashwin, Zaheer Khan, Ashish Nehra and Hardik Pandya were also present there.

A tough road ahead for Jadhav

There is cut-throat competition for slots in the Indian batting line-up with the emergence of talented cricketers. Manish Pandey, Hardik Pandya and Ajinkya Rahane have performed consistently for India at the number four position. Also, Kedar is nearing the age of 33 and he is not among the most vibrant cricketers on the field. Time still hasn’t run out for the all-rounder. Nonetheless, it’s pertinent for him to work out of his skins to keep his position in the team.
