England is currently ICC’s number-one ranked ODI team in the world. Therefore, quite expectantly, the Three Lions are deemed as one of the strong contenders to win the 2019 World Cup in England and Wales. The Brits started with a resounding 104-run victory against England at the Kennington Oval in London. However, the Eoin Morgan-captained team has strained a wee bit afterwards.

The English team got past Afghanistan, Bangladesh and the Windies without dropping much sweat. However, they slumped to a couple of defeats versus Sri Lanka and Pakistan and the drubbings have put their campaign somewhat in jeopardy. On June 21 at the Headingley in Leeds, England failed to chase down a modest target of 233 in their 50 overs, much to everyone’s surprise.

Though Ben Stokes played a masterful knock of 82 off 89 balls with seven boundaries and four sixes, but couldn’t take his team to glory. Morgan and Co are currently placed third in the points table and have three matches left. Moreover, Jason Roy hasn’t been a part of the national team in the previous two matches and that has somewhat weakened their batting as Roy has been in good form.

A worried Kevin Pietersen

For the time being, England has reasons to worry about as their remaining matches are versus- Australia, India and New Zealand- the teams placed well in the top half of the points table. They are next scheduled to face the Aussies and a defeat could set the cat amongst the pigeons in their dugout. England have played finals but is yet to get their hands on the coveted trophy.

In the meantime, Kevin Pietersen, the former English batsman, is worried for his team. He has urged the Three Lions to not bottle up their campaign in the mega event. He literally begged to them to avoid any mishap. Moreover, he’s a bit tensed about the ‘chaos’ going around in his Twitter handle after last night.

He took to Twitter and wrote, “Listen, @englandcricket, we’ve had our ups and downs. After putting all my eggs in your basket for this years CWC, I’m begging you to NOT F this tournament up. My twitter feed has been chaotic since last night! SWING HARD! NO BLOCKING!”
