The #10YearChallenge is making round on social media platforms like Instagram and Twitter where people, including several celebrities, are posting pictures of themselves a decade apart. The idea is to convey how less people have aged in 10 years’ time. However, former England cricketer Kevin Pietersen came up with a different perspective on the challenge on Twitter and it was liked by fans.

The 38-year-old Pietersen, who has also captained England, is a man who ardently supports conservation of the rhinoceros and announced in the past his association with the National Geographic for a documentary on the plight of the rhino in Africa. Former South Africa wicket-keeper Mark Boucher had taken Pietersen to a rhino tagging operation and ever since KP has deeply involved himself into different fundraising projects aimed at saving endangered animals in Africa and India.

He also set up his own platform SORAI (Save Our Rhino in Africa and India) to preserve the animal facing a serious threat to its existence, thanks to mindless poaching.

Pietersen’s passion for rhino conservation has become so widely known that his final match for the Melbourne Stars in the Big Bash League in Australia in January last year was called “Rhino Match” and the batsman was adjudged the Man of the Match for his23-ball-46-run knock.

A futuristic 10-year challenge

On Thursday, Kevin Pietersen came up with a tweet showing two pictures from the NCPSA (National Council of Societies for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals): one with a rhinoceros with a cub in 2019 while another having none in 2029. He captioned saying “let’s make sure this DOES NOT happen”, appealing for preserving the endangered animal worldwide.

The South Africa-born Pietersen, who resides in Surry, is also having a property set up neat the Kruger National Park in South Africa and has vowed to do all it takes to raise awareness against cruelty against animals.

Pietersen has scored over 13,000 international runs in 104 Tests, 136 ODIs and 37 T20Is with 32 hundreds and 18 wickets. One of the better batsmen to play for England, Pietersen made his international debut in 2004 and played his last game for England in 2004, in a Test against Australia.
