Prior to the 2019 edition of the World Cup in England and Wales, England was being deemed as one of the strong contenders to win the championship. The Brits stared like one, beating South Africa by a margin of over 100 runs at the Kennington Oval in London. However, Eoin Morgan and Co was given a reality check by Pakistan, who beat them by 14 runs at Trent Bridge in Nottingham.

Thereafter, the Three Lions have stuttered a wee bit. They beat Afghanistan, Windies and Bangladesh without dropping much sweat and strengthened their chances of qualifying for the semis. However, Sri Lanka surprised them with a 20-run loss at the Headingley in Leeds. To make things worse for England, Australia thumped them by 64 runs at the iconic Lord’s- The Home of Cricket.

Meanwhile, Pakistan won their last three matches and is giving England a tough competition. Morgan’s men would’ve breathed a sigh of relief as they beat India by 31 runs at the Edgbaston in Birmingham to take themselves one step closer to the semis. The Englishmen are now scheduled to lock horns with Kane Williamson’s New Zealand at the Riverside Ground in Chester-le-Street.

England still not out of jail

If England loses their last league encounter, then they have to depend on the result of the game between Bangladesh and Pakistan on July 5 at the Lord’s. If Pakistan wins, then the Brits will remain stranded on 10 points. Sarfaraz Ahmed’s men will then topple them with 11 points and make their way into the semis. The Three Lions are currently placed fourth in the points table.

In the meantime, former England cricketer Kevin Pietersen is a nervous lot. He is tensed to such to an extent that he wants the Indian supporters to back his team in the crunch encounter. The Indian fans rejoiced yesterday as India became the second team to qualify for the semis after Australia.

Pietersen asked on Twitter regarding the number of Indians, who’ll be rooting for England. He took to Twitter and wrote, “How many Indians supporting England today? Have we got 1.2billion on our side today? RT if YES?,”
