The Rising Pune Supergiants were up against Virat Kohli led Royal Challengers Bangalore and RCB had asked them to chase 186 to win their first home game. Having lost their most consistent run scorer Faf du Plessis cheaply the debutants certainly looked upto the big man Kevin Pietersen to get going and set them up for the chase. But on the very first ball that he faced in the game, KP hurt himself and was seen hopping his way back with the physio, and he had pulled something so bad that he couldn’t even walk and was later carried off the ground.

There was little clarity about his injury and the status before the Englishman himself posted a picture on his Instagram account with a caption that explained it all. Kevin Pietersen wrote: ‘Over & out, India! Injuries are all part of the job! Horrible tear in my calf! Sad to be leaving a really great bunch of boys but looking forward to being back with my family! London bound for a summer off! Vacation till November! Bye for now! Lots of love, KP’

This is a huge blow to the Supergiants who were already struggling to get their batting together with KP returning home they will certainly look upto one of their overseas allrounders in Mitchell Marsh and Albie Morkel to take his place and give some depth to the team. During the post-match talk RPS skipper MS Dhoni was quick to mention that KP’s injury could well be a blessing in disguise for the team, since dropping a big player like him isn’t easy and since he is injured it will give him a chance to play one of the two allrounders and strengthen their bowling further.
