James Faulkner’s inability to wrap up yesterday’s encounter against Adelaide Strikers made him face some serious flak and Kevin Pietersen grabbed the opportunity and trolled the former. In the fifth match of the BBL, the Melbourne Stars lost their second game in a trot as they lost to the Thunder by just 1 run. The Stars have now lost both their games and are second from the bottom of the table. The next game for the Stars is on the 28th when they take onSydney Sixers.

The Stars appeared to have the game won and done, requiring just four runs to win off the last two balls – and with the right man for the job at the crease.

Faulkner was “in”, too, having scored 43 off 34 balls and having just clipped the first three balls of the over to deep mid-wicket for twos. He was breathing hard after sprinting those twos, but composed himself before facing up to South African great Jacques Kallis again.

It was expected that he would do something similar off balls five and six to complete another Michael Bevan-like close-out, even though it looked like an innings of hard running was taking plenty out of the 25-year-old.

Having to score 10 runs off a pro like Kallis is difficult for anyone, even Faulkner.

It was the decision to play a “ramp” shot – flicking the ball over the wicketkeeper’s head, for those who don’t know – that most shocked the 20,000 fans at the ground and many more watching at home. Kevin Pietersen added salt to the wound by tweeting Faulkner’s figures and his close shave with win. Lets check out the conversation.
