The 20-year-old Khaleel Ahmed has been rewarded for his brilliant show in the quadrangular series by the selectors. He received a maiden ODI call-up to the Indian team for the upcoming Asia Cup which will commence on September 15. The chief selector MSK Prasad has already cleared that they are looking at him as a potential candidate for the World Cup next year in England.

The youngster, meanwhile, has also expressed his desire to represent his country for as long as possible across whichever format he gets the opportunity. His name came into the limelight earlier this year after doing well in the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 trophy and then was picked for a whopping amount of Rs 3 Crore in the IPL auction by the Sunrisers Hyderabad franchise.

However, he played only a solitary match in the whole competition and was expensive in the three overs he bowled. Though the coaches of Hyderabad were impressed a lot with him and is rated so highly.

I want to play the maximum number of matches

Khaleel Ahmed was visibly excited after he was picked in the Indian team for the first time and wanted to make the opportunity count. He also went on to say that he wants to pick many wickets for his country. “Now that I have got selected, I want to play a maximum number of matches for India & not just the Asia Cup. I want to play for at least 10 years & take as many wickets as I can,” he said while speaking to ANI.

Earlier, MSK Prasad also lauded his efforts and tipped him to be the part of the World Cup squad as well. His left-arm pace will be crucial for Team India and he hoped that Khaleel nails down the lone seamer slot. “There are two, three slots we are yet to see before we fix the final team for the World Cup and one of the slots is a seamer slot which is available. We are looking at a left-hander option in Khaleel Ahmed,” Prasad had said.
