The Mumbai Indians placed third in the IPL 2019 points table, are set to play their 13th fixture of the season against the Sunrisers Hyderabad. With two games left for Mumbai in the league stage of this season, they need to win at least one of the remaining two matches to make it to the playoffs. Ahead of the game against SRH, the power-hitter Kieron Pollard was all praises for Mumbai teammate Hardik Pandya.
On Wednesday, the 31-year-old Trinidadian praised the Indian pacer and stroke-maker Hardik Pandya for his valiant six-hitting and said the all-rounder carries a lot of punch in his batting. In the 12th edition of the IPL, the 25-year-old has amassed 355 runs in 12 games so far. The runs included 27 sixes and 25 fours speaking for his power-hitting spree. To surprise everyone, he also hit a gigantic 91 off 34 balls against Kolkata Knight Riders at the Eden Gardens, on Sunday.
The Calypso who heaped praise for Pandya was quoted saying by India Today, “He is a small guy but hits (the ball) a long way. And again once he continues to practice well and continue to evolve as a cricketer, you can see him doing great things not only for Mumbai Indians but by extension Indian cricket.”
It is a matter of Pandya having confidence, says Pollard
“He’s not really practicing differently. It is about believing in his ability. Obviously, the situations he has been in, he had no choice but to go and hit and he has shown his power-game as well, so it’s good for him. Even when he came onto the scene, if you remember, a couple of games for Mumbai (Indians), he finished off with his big hits.”
“It is a matter of him having the confidence because he is one of those guys who is free-spirited and will just go out and try to use his youthful exuberance to have an impact on the game,” Pollard explained that it is Pandya’s confidence more than anything.
