In a rather audacious bid to boost the morale of their team, the Kings XI Punjab may well go ahead by appointing Virender Sehwag as their head coach for the upcoming campaign. More recently, the 38-year old has been enjoying life in retirement with a series of tweets that have taken Twitter by storm in recent times and has also lent his voice in the commentary box as well.

The Kings XI Punjab have had a rather ordinary time in the IPL in the last two seasons. Since reaching the final in the 2014 edition of the tournament, they have fallen terribly off the pace in the last season where they finished second to last. Moreover, the ploy of making David Miller the skipper did not work, to say the least.

The 27-year old was one of the shining lights for the Kings in the previous seasons, but the burden of captaincy was a bridge too far for the South African as he was soon replaced by opener Murali Vijay. Allegations of various spats within the dressing room also developed into front-page news, something that was certainly avoidable.

Reports suggest that Sanjay Bangar’s argument with owner Preity Zinta has eventually seen him put in hs resignation papers. Bangar has also served as the batting coach for the Indian cricket team in recent times along with his former India teammate Anil Kumble.

While Kumble is now serving as the head coach of the Indian team and has had a blockbuster year that has seen them finish 2016 as the World’s top-ranked side in Test matches. Virender Sehwag, who was a senior player in Kumble’s India XI of 2007-08 will be the newest coach from the so-called ‘Golden Generation’ of players should he accept the role the Kings are reportedly offering him at the moment.
