Playing his first game of the season, Chetan Sakariya bowled a lethal spell against Kolkata Knight Riders and returned with figures of 1/17 in three overs. The left-arm pacer was spot-on in the powerplay overs as KKR were pushed on the back foot right from the get-go. Alongside keeping the scoring rate down, Sakariya also drew the first blood of the KKR innings, dismissing dashing opener Aaron Finch for just three.

The Delhi Capitals debutant came up with a special celebration after dismissing Finch which became a talking point among the fans. Sakariya first performed the ‘Black Panther celebration’ which he did a lot in IPL 2021 as well. The 24-year-old then unleashed the ‘Dragon Ball Z’ celebrations, imitating the anime’s lead character Goku.

Chetan Sakariya was instrumental in DC’s four-wicket victory

Sakariya’s special celebrations soon became a talking point as the clip went viral in no time. Meanwhile, his efforts proved to be fruitful as the Rishabh Pant-led side recorded a much-needed four-wicket triumph. Having restricted KKR to 146/9 in their allotted 20 overs, DC crossed the line with an over to spare.

Meanwhile, Sakariya, despite his stellar show, isn’t likely to get a long run this season and Khaleel Ahmed would replace him in the XI once the latter is fit and available. “We haven’t thought (about this as the best XI) as a hundred percent. Khaleel got injured and that was a forced change, once he is back then we will have our best XI,” said Pant after the game.

Besides Sakariya, Kuldeep Yadav also bowled a stellar spell as he ran through KKR’s line-up and took his second four-wicket haul of the season. His brilliant show also earned him the Player-of-the-Match award. Meanwhile, DC are now sixth in the points table with four wins in eight games. As we head towards the business end of IPL 2022, stakes in the remaining games are extremely high. The Capitals must win at least four of their remaining six games to secure a place in the playoffs without any hassle.
