The Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Gujarat Titans (GT) will be up against each other in Match 35 of the Indian Premier League 2022. KKR is at the seventh position with three wins in seven appearances. On the other hand, GT has five wins in six league matches and is positioned at the top of the points table.

In their last league fixture, KKR suffered a close loss by seven runs against Rajasthan Royals (RR). Their bowling effort was average giving away 200+ runs, but the batters tried their best to chase down the score. The captain, Shreyas Iyer slammed 85 off 51 balls, and Aaron Finch provided a good start with 58 off 25 balls. In the bowling unit, Sunil Narine was the most successful bowler with figures of 2/21 off four overs.

For GT, spinner Rashid Khan acted as the stand-in captain to fill the boots of Hardik Pandya in their last outing. The whirlwind innings of 94* off 51 from David Miller and Rashid’s 40 off 21 balls sealed a thrilling win for the team by three wickets. The Caribbean fast bowler, Alzarri Joseph featured in his first match of the season and picked two wickets.

Pitch and conditions

Overall, it’s a good wicket for the batters to score runs, and the pace bowlers might get assistance with the new ball. Most of the teams have managed to win the game by posting a strong total at this venue and then defending it as well. But, the pattern is gradually changing, with the latest encounter between MI and CSK won by the team chasing down the score.

Playing combinations for KKR vs GT

Kolkata Knight Riders

Knight Riders are coming into this game after three consecutive losses in the tournament. They have not been able to find the contributions from their key players in crunch moments. In the last game, the middle-order succumbed to pressure, and failed to chase down the score. However, the quickfire knock of Finch would give them confidence in the top-order.

The captain Iyer is in good nick and Nitish Rana has been getting good starts. The problem lies in the inconsistency of Andre Russell and Venkatesh Iyer in the batting department. On the other hand, Pat Cummins and Varun Chakravarthy are yet to deliver with the ball. In this game, the team management might go with the same set of players, which is their best XI as well.

Probable XI: Venkatesh Iyer, Aaron Finch, Shreyas Iyer (c), Nitish Rana, Andre Russell, Sheldon Jackson (wk), Sunil Narine, Pat Cummins, Shivam Mavi, Umesh Yadav, Varun Chakravarthy

Gujarat Titans

Titans produced a terrific performance in the last outing, and will be confident of their abilities ahead of this fixture. They have a quality bowling attack in the presence of Mohammed Shami, Lockie Ferguson, and Rashid Khan. Although, most batters have not looked at their best, there have been moments which have been sealed by them to secure five victories in their debut campaign.

The regular captain Hardik Pandya is set to return in this game, and the team management might have to ouster the pace bowler Yash Dayal for his inclusion. The likes of Wriddhiman Saha and Vijay Shankar failed in the last game, but are expected to be trusted due to their experience and track record in this format. The middle-order is rock solid, with the in-form players like David Miller and Abhinav Manohar scoring runs

Probable XI: Wriddhiman Saha (wk), Shubman Gill, Vijay Shankar, Hardik Pandya (c), David Miller, Abhinav Manohar, Rahul Tewatia, Rashid Khan, Alzarri Joseph, Lockie Ferguson, Mohammed Shami
