The Kolkata Knight Riders will be locking horns with the Sunrisers Hyderabad in Match 61 of IPL 2022 at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune on May 14. While Kolkata do have a mathematical chance of making the playoffs, the qualification scenario is extremely difficult for them after their heavy 75-run defeat against the Lucknow Super Giants last week.

While the two-time winners did get the better of Mumbai Indians by 52 runs in the last game, they just cannot afford to slip any further from here on as a loss will knock them out without any further formalities. The next two wins will get them to 14 points.

Hyderabad, on the other hand, have been arguably the most unpredictable side of the competition. After losing their opening two fixtures, the Kane Williamson-led side then staged a remarkable comeback with five consecutive wins. However, they then ran out of fire and brimstone and went on taste four straight defeats thereafter. In fact, the Orange Army has not been able to find the winning momentum after their defeat to Gujarat Titans in a last-ball thriller a couple of weeks ago.

Nonetheless, unlike the Kolkata Knight Riders, the Sunrisers Hyderabad have an additional match which means that should if they win their remaining fixtures, they would get to 16 points which could do a world of good for their playoff qualification hopes provided they have a superior net run rate with bigger margin wins.

Pitch and conditions

It is to be noted that the toss will play an important role since this is a virtual knockout for both sides. Usually, the team winning the toss decides to bowl first taking the dew factor into consideration later on in the contest but, the wicket at the MCA Stadium is very useful for the batters to score in the initial overs and it also will offer a lot of assistance for the spinners as the contest progresses. Therefore, the captain calling it right at the toss would be looking to bat first and post a competitive total on the board.

Playing combinations for KKR vs SRH

Kolkata Knight Riders

The Kolkata Knight Riders would have preferred to field the same XI that was instrumental in registering a big win over the Mumbai Indians. Unfortunately for them, a hip injury to Pat Cummins has ruled him out for the remainder of the tournament which means that the two-time champions will need to make a forced change in their squad.

Predicted XI: Venkatesh Iyer, Ajinkya Rahane, Shreyas Iyer (c), Nitish Rana, Sam Billings (wk), Andre Russell, Rinku Singh, Sunil Narine, Tim Southee, Umesh Yadav, Varun Chakaravarthy

Sunrisers Hyderabad

The Sunrisers Hyderabad might be making just one change in their line-up after a humiliating 67-run defeat at the hands of southern rivals Royal Challengers Bangalore last weekend. They would be making the much-needed change in their pace attack with the inclusion of South African speedster Marco Jansen ahead of Fazalhaq Farooqi.

Predicted XI:  Abhishek Sharma, Kane Williamson (c), Rahul Tripathi, Aiden Markram, Nicholas Pooran (wk), Shashank Singh, Jagadeesha Suchith, Marco Jansen, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Umran Malik, Kartik Tyagi
