Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) won a thrilling game against Delhi Capitals on Wednesday (October 13) to seal their place in the final of the Indian Premier League (IPL). They were coasting to victory at one stage and needed only 13 runs off 25 balls with nine wickets in hand. But they sensationally collapsed from being 123/1 to 130/7 and were left to score six runs off last two balls.

Four of their batters – Eoin Morgan, Dinesh Karthik, Shakib Al Hasan and Sunil Narine – bagged ducks as Delhi stormed back into the contest. However, Rahul Tripathi kept his calm to smash a six off the half-tracker from Ravi Ashwin and took his team into the final.

Meanwhile, former South Africa cricketer Dale Steyn feels KKR were lucky to make it to the final despite enduring a couple of collapses in knockout games. They were in trouble late in the game against RCB as well and then almost experienced the biggest choke in the history of cricket against DC.

Steyn gave an example of playing a casino while stating that KKR’s luck will catch up to them in the final against Chennai Super Kings (CSK). “I kind of have always played numbers. It’s like going to a casino. If it lands on black 10 times in a row then at some point red’s going to hit. I just feel that at some point KKR’s luck is going to catch up to them.

“Bad decisions and lack of form of Morgan and DK that kind of stuff is going to catch up to them. It almost did tonight and it might happen at the worst time and that’s the final,” Steyn said while speaking to ESPNCricinfo.

CSK have looked a calmer side this season, says Steyn

Dale Steyn is backing CSK to come good in the final saying that they are the calmer side compared to the KKR and won’t panic in crunch situations. He also reckoned that the team is going in the right direction and can pip KKR in the final. “CSK look good, really calm. They look like they kind of have got going up in the right direction at the right time.

“Dhoni looked good the other night, he’s captained his team well. Their batters are looking good… I just think that KKR might come against a better team in the final,” Steyn added.
