In a rather interesting development Karnataka opening batsman KL Rahul and Kashmir all-rounder, Parvez Rasool have been drafted into the RCB squad from the Sunrisers Hyderabad.
The Royal Challengers Bangalore has failed to win the IPL thus far. While plotting a way to win the title, coach Daniel Vettori has always looked to strike ‘the perfect balance’. Apart from signing Shane Watson and a few other low-key signings, RCB has finally snapped up KL Rahul and Parvez Rasool.
It would seem as a homecoming of sorts for KL Rahul. The Karnataka batsman was picked up by the Sunrisers Hyderabad where he was an absolute revelation. He has featured for the national side on 5 occasions in Tests and is also a handy wicketkeeper. Rahul will be expected to open the innings for the Royal Challengers alongside Chris Gayle. Rahul was snapped up by the Sunrisers for Rs. 1 crore.
While KL Rahul has been brought in to strengthen the batting, Parvez Rasool has been brought in to strike a much-needed balance in the side. The 27-year-old Rasool has played in the IPL before, having turned out for the now defunct Pune Warriors. He was picked up in the IPL auction for Rs. 95 Lakh.
IPL chairman Rajeev Shukla commented, “The Royal Challengers Bangalore have made strong moves ahead of the season. KL Rahul is one of the talented young batsmen in the Indian circuit while Parvez Rasool is an asset to any team with his all-round abilities.”
UB Spirits and RCB chairman Vijay Mallya was overjoyed with the news. “Given his multiple skills, KL Rahul has a lot to offer RCB in terms of batting and wicket keeping. It’s a good feeling to get a prominent local Karnataka boy back home and in the RCB fold again. “Parvez offers us a spinning all rounder option that we were targeting to compliment Chahal and Iqbal. I hope to see him continue his good form in this forthcoming IPL season,” he added.
