India are all set to kick off their ODI series against Australia in just two days time. All the players have been gearing up in their best form to put up a great display, but there are names that have turned heads in recent times. KL Rahul is one such name, and especially after his thunderous form is IPL 2020, he is being seen in big capacity. In the same line, former opener and analyst Aakash Chopra believes that Rahul can smash a double century in ODI cricket.

Chopra believes that Rahul has enormous talent, and if he comes up the order, he can definitely achieve this feat. Chopra answered India’s opening combination in the white ball series in the absence of Rohit Sharma. The commentator said that Shikhar Dhawan can either walk up with Mayank Agarwal, KL, or Sanju Samson.

“This question does not have an easy answer because Rohit is not there. So, the question is who will be opening with Shikhar, who will be one of the openers in ODIs and T20Is. Do you see Mayank Agarwal opening, that is a big question, or will you see towards Sanju Samson or open with KL Rahul,” said Chopra while answering fans on his YouTube channel.

If in case KL Rahul plays as keeper also, then he can’t open the order. In that case, Samson will have to take the responsibility, but in case Samson can keep the wickets, KL would be a great choice as an opener. Chopra believes that the Indian team would do justice with KXIP skipper’s talent by giving him opening roles, and in that case, he may surprise with a double-ton too.

My heart says that KL Rahul should open: Aakash Chopra

“My heart says that KL Rahul should open because the sort of player he is, he scores hundreds, and in my opinion, if he plays very well, he can even score a double hundred in ODIs.”

The cricket expert further predicted India’s probable XI in limited over series as-

“So this is how the team will look like – Mayank with Shikhar, Kohli at No.3, Iyer at No.4, Rahul at No.5, Hardik at No.6, Jaddu at No.7 and after that four bowlers – Chahal, Bumrah, Shami and I will go with T Natarajan.”
