Lokesh Rahul the new and pleasant addition to the Indian team across formats is not just enjoying a great time with the bat and on the field but is also making sure he is having enough of the travelling opportunities to try different hairstyles. He wore long hair with a man bun since the start of the season with the Indian Premier League. KL Rahul was at his best for the Royal Challengers Bangalore and that got him the boarding pass to a flight to Zimbabwe.

The African safari changed a lot of things for him and by the end of it, he was the only Indian player aboard for a journey to the Caribbean islands where he would be joined by Virat Kohli and company for the Test series against West Indies. Having done enough to impress most on the opportunities he got when regular opener Murali Vijay was out with an injury Rahul scored two hundreds and a fifty in the 4 innings that he batted and by the end of the tour had embarked himself for a lot more.

He then made his way to Miami with the boys who played the Test series to be joined by MS Dhoni who was to lead them in the 2-match T20I series. The first game didn’t go well for India as they lost by just one run. But in the massive chase of 245 runs in a T20I, the man who got them that close was Rahul. Amidst all that, the serious business and impressing one and all with his game in all the three formats. The ability to adapt, to tackle the situation and to deal with the pressure he hasn’t lost himself.

KL Rahul carried the flavors of the Caribbean with him when in the US and utilized the time in Miami to get a new haircut. The long her were neatly tied into braids and pulled together into a bun. You imagine that hairdo and probably a West Indies cricketer comes to your mind. But this Indian cricketer is not just game on the field but also loves to make things interesting when not dealing against tough oppositions.

Knowing Indian parents as well as we do, despite the fact that the son is considered one of the biggest finds of the season they wouldn’t approve of a hairstyle like that. What’s with your hair they’d ask and the mother probably would even want to volunteer to cut them off for you. The scene is the same for Rahul as he said that his parents wouldn’t approve of it but it’s his decision to carry it.

He said he has always loved to experiment with his hair and was a common complaint that reached his parents while he was in school. The boy who comes from Mangalore in Karnataka said he has always followed superstar footballer David Beckham for his hair style and also the tattoos.

Talking to the bcci.tv about his new hairstyle Rahul said, “I went to a salon and I’ve been wanting to get this hairstyle for a while since we spent a few months in West Indies and I liked the way the guys had their hair braided and I have long hair and I don’t think I’ll have them for long. So I thought one last style with the long hair and when I go back home whatever I want. I have always liked to change things and have different hairstyles for different seasons. I have liked to play with my hair. I didn’t know if I could do it in India so I am in Miami and what better place to get it done.”

What would have been the reaction of his parents? “Sure the reaction would be very obvious. I am sorry Ma, I am sorry dad but they know it they have seen me do a lot of things. In school they had a lot of complaints going about my hair so they are used to it. I am sure they won’t approve it. But it’s my decision.” He said.

Did he face problem while wearing the helmet with the braids? Rahul explained, “That’s the only time it becomes a problem when my hair is under the helmet. I have just gotten used to it. When I am fielding or when I am outside it doesn’t matter much something that doesn’t really bother me or affect me while playing cricket.”

Talking about the top 5 hair styles he said, “Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Sergio Ramos, Fernando Torres (when he had the long hair), David Beckham and Kevin Pietersen”

He also said that his RCB teammate Chris Gayle who had sported a similar look in the past hadn’t seen it but he was sure out of everyone he would definitely approve of it.
