Ever since Australia visited India, KL Rahul has been out of action due to his shoulder injury. Subsequently, he also missed the Indian Premier League and his absence was badly felt in the Royal Challengers Bangalore who won only 3 games this season. KL, who was expected to shoulder big responsibilities in the Champions Trophy will not be a part of the prestigious 50-overs tournament as well.
But the next event he is targeting after reassessing his fitness is the Sri Lanka series. KL, who underwent a surgery about a month ago, feels he can be fit for the Sri Lankan series. It has been a frustrating few days for Rahul to stay away from the side especially when he was in the form of his life.
Injury plagued him both physically and mentally
“It’s been just a month that I had this surgery. It will take some more time, maybe two months to recover and attain the required fitness to get back to international cricket. So aiming for sometime in August for a comeback, probably can make a comeback for the Sri Lanka series,” he was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz on Monday.
Injuries don’t just harass athletes physically but mentally too. It can be traumatic to stay away from the game, something that they love so dearly, for such a long period of time. And KL’s story is no different.
He confessed that the injury has plagued him both physically and mentally. “So far it has been challenging not just physically but also mentally and emotionally. To be at home and not do anything is frustrating. It is challenging for me. Missing tournaments due to injury is a part and parcel of the game for a player. Of course, I miss playing cricket, being part of the IPL, it is the biggest tournament in India and the Champions Trophy, would have been the first world (ICC) tournament that I would have played.”
Unlucky to miss out on Champions Trophy
The champions trophy would have been a great platform for KL, to make an impact. It is very unfortunate for any cricketer to miss out on an ICC event due to injury.
“ It could have been a big moment in my career, I was looking forward to play in the Champions Trophy. It is a little bit frustrating. I will take care of my recovery and come back stronger,” he added.
