While Kings XI Punjab failed to convert a win against the Mumbai Indians last night, the effort put in by KL Rahul cannot go unnoticed. Albeit on the losing side, Rahul once again gave an exemplary display of his class and sheer brilliance. The 26- year-old scored a fiery 94 to aid his team’s cause, but last over heroics from Jasprit Bumrah saved the Rohit Shama-led team and kept them in contention for qualification.
It’s also been a campaign that’s seen KL Rahul score 558 runs at a terrific strike-rate of 161.73. The way he is batting serves as a testament that Rahul is now ready to flourish in all three formats of the game. His two seasons in Hyderabad with Sunrisers gave few hints of his potential as a Twenty20 player. It was only when he moved back to Bangalore and smashed 397 runs at a strike-rate of 146.49 that people began to consider the possibility that India might have stumbled across another all-format batsman.
Lauding his efforts, former England cricketer Michael Vaughan took to his Twitter handle. The veteran heaped praises on Rahul and wrote, “KL Rahul is some player. He needs to be playing all formats for #India .. #IPL2018.”

Match Details
Batting first, Mumbai Indians rode on Kieron Pollard’s fifty, Krunal Pandya’s 32 and little cameos at the end from Mitchell McClenaghan and Mayank Markande to post a challenging total of 186/8 on a good batting track.
Punjab, on the other hand, looked to be in control of the chase till the 16th over with the scoreboard reading 145/1 and KL Rahul and Aaron Finch still there at the crease. However, the 17th over from Jasprit Bumrah changed everything as he rocked Punjab with two quick wickets of Finch and Marcus Stoinis. He came back in the 19th over to claim Rahul’s wicket as well and hence sealed the victory for Mumbai with that wicket.
